Poems about Death by Alyanna Poe
Share
I may be related to Edgar Allan Poe, but I'm far from a poet. These have sat in my drafts for years, and I think I'm ready to share them...
Old Steel
The metallic cries of grinding gears,
Screeching screams accompanied by rusted tears,
A laborious life of a thousand years,
Long ago did the supply of oil halt,
The rust that bloomed within you is not your fault,
The cheeks of those above you, you could not salt,
"Lifeless and outdated!" they exclaim,
With hammers and wrenches, they used to maintain,
Your parts seized up, your life grew mundane,
There you lie in wait, much potential under the rust,
You beg and plead for a mechanic you can trust,
Silence is all they hear, their ears plugged with money lust,
Within your dark solitude lies a deeper fear,
Every day that passes by, your day of disassembly comes near,
And when that day comes, you can do nothing as they take you apart gear by gear,
Lie in the shadows my dear machine,
The day will come when you are recycled and clean,
But not before a life amongst the broken and obscene.

Inspired by all the rusty machinery and cars I see rotting away...so much potential...wasted
Within Reach
Does death visit you in your dreams, my dear?
Because I know that death is very near,
I see you twitch and tremble in your sleep,
How your cries make me teary and weep,
After all, life does have a cost,
One which we all pay with loved ones lost,
May the reaper bring you peace,
May you know my love for you will never cease,
I hear it in the way you breathe,
The reaper creeping on you, waiting to thieve,
Would it be better if it were a surprise?
Well, I'd rather not see that deathly acceptance in your eyes,
Can you run from him just a little longer?
Tell him to go, assure him that you're feeling stronger,
Place a barrier between you and him,
Please, oh please, beg him to let you live,
I cannot imagine a day without you,
Where the grass is still green and the sky is still blue,
Yet the day is amiss, off, and oh so depressing,
I can feel him, that boney thumb pressing,
Your flame is but a flicker,
The fog in your eyes steadily grows thicker,
And I must go on while you're put to rest,
Our souls put asunder and a hole in my breast.

Inspired by my dog who passed from cancer a few weeks after I wrote this poem...
The Death of a Whore
Oh, burn me to the core,
My little carnivore,
Your sickly love can't hurt me anymore,
While your body was a chore,
Now I sit back and await it to wash ashore,
When we met, I thought you were a score,
Little did I know, you’re just a beastly whore,
How many lovers did you let in through my door?
When I first found out, my heart was sore,
But my plan, oh, was I prepared for,
Late one night you came back from the store,
I stared at our wedding photos regretting them all before,
I hit you over the head, watching your body hit the floor,
You laid there unconscious and able to lie no more,
From your body, your limbs I tore,
I was sure to count them all, one, two, three, and four!
Like a scene from a horror movie, you should have seen the gore!
I was oh so happy, how I could feel my heart soar,
After I found adultery, I would not implore,
This was the only solution, one I could not ignore,
You’d be happy to know I indulged a fantasy of your,
I picked up your arm, my mind drawn to vore,
I took a bite of the flesh, which took some labor,
The taste was unpleasant, with a flavor so poor,
I quickly took you away, your body I abhor,
My mind raced, encapsulated in the heat of fervor,
The coast embraced us, the view far from a bore,
Sitting beside your naked parts, I took in the ocean’s splendor,
I dumped your body in, listening to the crashing waves roar,
Never did I think I’d miss the single life’s glamor,
Now with your body gone, I will hear from your lips nevermore,
Of my life, I will go on in good humor,
Remembering that taking love for granted is the deadliest error.

Just a fun challenge I tried where you keep the same rhyme throughout...
